The Perak government is expecting spin off worth RM1 billion from the upcoming Visit Perak Year 2012.
Perak’s Chief Minister, Datuk Dr.Zambry Abdul Kadir , said tourism products and attractions in the state are able to generate big profits for the government and its people.
“This year, the overall spin off from the tourism sector has reached RM1 billion and we are expecting an increase next year as the Visit Perak Year 2012 is set to generate a lot of tourism activities,” said Dr Zambry.
There has been a hotel boom in Perak recently to cater to visitors who come to see its wonderful natural assets.
“With its many tourist attractions, we are set to get Perak into the world tourism map as one of the best spots to visit in the country,” said Dr Zambry while adding the real ambassadors for the Visit Perak year 2012 are its people.
The Visit Perak campaign will focus on the best of Perak, highlighting on Royal Belum, Pulau Pangkor, and Kota Tampan and Lenggong, which have been earmarked as the next UNESCO world heritage site.
It is expected that 3 million tourists will visit Perak next year which is a 40 percent increase from the usual figure.
Dr Zambry was speaking to reporters after launching the logo of Visit Perak Year 2012 as well as Perak’s tourism tagline “Yours To Discover” at the MBI Square on Sunday.
The logo symbolises the natural beauty of Perak and will be seen on all promotional and marketing tools.
Earlier, State Exco for Industry, Investment, Entrepreneurial Development, Tourism, Welfare and Women Affairs, Datuk Hamidah Osman said the several state would be going all out to woo tourists.
She said the state would embark on an aggressive campaign in drawing in the tourists to Perak to ensure the success of VPY.
“We have set aside RM2mil to promote VPY this year and the amount will most probably be doubled next year,” she added.
Hamidah added that 17 billboards would be erected along highways and at the KL International Airport, Low Cost Carrier Terminal and KL Sentral to promote VPY.
“Advertisements would also be placed in travel magazines”.
