Registered under P.W.D. 37, this house located on Aman Road in Batu Gajah was the 34th residence of the Sultan of Perak, His Royal Highness Paduka Seri Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Yussuf Izzuddin Shah Ghafarullahu–lah during his school years until December 1949.
In this house, Sultan Azlan Shah was raised by his late mother, Hajah Hatijah binti Dato’ Seri Dewangsa Ahmad, along with his elder brother, the late Raja Baharom. The house holds countless memories for His Royal Highness and his family. Therefore, in 2008, the house was carefully restored and converted into a gallery that showcases photographs and information about His Royal Highness from his childhood to his teenage years.
The structure of the house has been preserved in its original form, consisting of two separate buildings: the house and the kitchen. The main building has been turned into an exhibition space, while the kitchen building now serves as an office for the staff. The exhibition space is divided into several sections, beginning with the family lineage, school years, sports and recreational activities, and recent developments.
The family lineage section displays photographs of His Royal Highness with his father, mother, and elder brother. The school years section showcases memories of His Royal Highness’s education journey, starting from Sekolah Melayu Batu Gajah, the Government English School (now known as Sekolah Menengah Sultan Yussuf), and then to Maktab Melayu Kuala Kangsar before continuing his studies in Law at the University of Nottingham in 1949. The sports and recreational activities section presents a collection of photographs of His Royal Highness with friends during school sports activities he enjoyed, such as hockey, cricket, badminton, and other sports.
This house is located next to the Batu Gajah Prison and is close to other government departments, including the Batu Gajah Hospital, the Batu Gajah District Council, and the District and Land Office of Kinta. It is conveniently situated just 24 kilometers from Ipoh and takes approximately 30 minutes to reach.
