Some 300 guests from travel agencies and the media attended Tourism Malaysia Perak (TMP)’s Hari Raya open house at Bandar Ipoh Raya recently.
TMP also organised a homestay trip for 20 students from Universiti Technologi Petronas, Tronoh, in conjuction with the Hari Raya celebrations.
Its director, Norshamshida A. Rahman, said the state achieved third place in attracting local tourists last year.
“Last year, 12.2 million tourists came to Perak compared with 6.1 million in 2009.
“The record includes day-visit and overnight-stay tourists in the state. Visitors from Selangor totalled 911,300, Kuala Lumpur (372,500), Penang (292,000) and Kedah (156,700).
“The favourite places are Taiping Zoo, Teluk Batik, Pangkor Island, Taiping Lake and Bukit Merah Lake Town Resort.
She said TMP had a list of tourism promotions which will be introduced in the Visit Perak Year next year.
“They include Ipoh Food Trail, Homestay and Rail Tourism, Ipoh Heritage Trail, Expo and familiarisation trip for the media.
“We will continue to promote popular destinations such as Pulau Banding, Taiping, Kuala Sepetang and Pasir Salak,” she said.
