Kiki-Lalat

Despite their Facebook page listing them as a wine bar, Kiki-Lalat in Ipoh is a haven for local lager and craft beer enthusiasts. While there’s a wine lounge upstairs called Asip, the main attraction at Kiki-Lalat is the impressive selection of beers.

Owner Sunny shares that the name “Kiki-Lalat” is inspired by a childhood clothing brand. “Kiki” refers to a small group gossiping, while “lalat” means flies. Sunny likens flies gathering around todi, one of their specialties, to people coming together to drink. He believes that those who remember the brand will feel a sense of nostalgia and camaraderie.

To find Kiki-Lalat, look for the rattan chairs and Nyonya-mosaic tiled pavement that hint at the entrance. The old shop lot has been minimally renovated, retaining much of its historical charm. Inside, you’ll find a variety of antiques, including a functioning old printing press, which adds to the quirky, nostalgic ambiance. The surreal experience is heightened by a soundtrack of pumping 80s hits playing in the background.

Kiki-Lalat offers an impressive selection of local brews on tap, alongside a fridge stocked with imported craft beers. Starting with the local brews is lighter on the pocket and provides a great introduction for those looking to transition from regular beer to more sophisticated craft options.

The interior of Kiki-Lalat combines modern and vintage elements, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The minimally renovated space, with its antique decor and nostalgic music, makes it an ideal spot for relaxing with friends and enjoying a quality drink.

For anyone visiting Ipoh, Kiki-Lalat is a must-visit destination. Its blend of local lagers, craft beers, and a nostalgic ambiance makes it a standout in the city’s vibrant nightlife scene. Whether you’re a craft beer aficionado or just looking for a unique place to unwind, Kiki-Lalat offers an experience that is sure to leave a lasting impression.
