Durbar at FMS

Durbar is a bar and restaurant housed in a building once known as FMS. FMS or the Federated Malay States, was an icon in the Perak capital city. And it seems to have retained most of the old world charm and food.

Durbar at FMS is one of the oldest bars in Malaysia with records stating that it was founded by a Hainanese immigrant in 1906.

It was a popular place for European miners and planters, during colonial times and later was frequented by locals.

The FMS met some hard times in the latter part of the last century and shuttered more than a decade ago. It was reopened in early 2019 and run by architect Seow Wee Liam as Durbar At FMS.

When you step inside, it truly reflects the image of the historical Ipoh Old Town. Visitors and diners can view photographs of pre-WWII and colonial Ipoh and some rare copies of newspaper articles published during Merdeka.

The restaurant is like travelling into the past as the place is adorned with some of the finest collection of antique timber furniture, classic hanging lights and vintage ceiling fans.

Hainanese Chicken Chop, Classic Chicken Mornay, Baked Stuffed Crab, Enche Kabin Chicken is a must try food at Durbar. It is also a cosy and family friendly bar.
