Ipoh Starwalk will feature two new additions in the competition categories — International Men and International Women this year.
Star Publications (M) Bhd executive director Tan Sri Kamal Hashim announced the additions after unveiling Ipoh Starwalk 2012’s new logo during the soft launch at The Star’s Ipoh office yesterday.
He said the international categories were added in conjunction with the current Visit Perak Year 2012 tourism campaign.
“I also hope that with the additional categories, the event will draw participants and tourists from neighbouring countries,” he said
Kamal also hoped the total number of participants would exceed 14,400 that was recorded last year.
Datuk Bandar Datuk Roshidi Hashim was represented by Ipoh City Council assistant secretary (management) Saidatul Akma Jamaludin.
“Ipoh City Council (MBI) gives its full support for the event and is contributing RM10,000 as prize money for the international categories this year,” said Saidatul.
Also present at the launch was The Star regional operations manager (north) Chung Chok Yin.
The highly anticipated Ipoh Starwalk will be held on June 17 and participants will be flagged off from Stadium Indera Mulia.
The route and distance of the non-competition and competition categories remain unchanged at 7km and 10km respectively.
This is the ninth year Ipoh Starwalk will be held since its inception in 2004.
Ipoh Starwalk 2012 is jointly organised by Star Publications (M) Bhd and MBI with the co-operation of the Perak government, Perak Athletic Association, Perak Education Department, state police, Malaysian Red Crescent Society, Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital and Rela.
The registration fee is RM10 for the non-competition category and RM15 for the competition category. Each participant will get a t-shirt and goodie bag while those who complete the walk within the stipulated time stand to win attractive prizes.
