During the British presence in this region from 1786 to 1824, there was a steady influx of Indian nationals to Malaya. The British brought in a significant number of North Indians, especially from the Pathans and Punjabi Muslim communities, to work here, particularly in the security sector. They were enlisted in the Police Force and played a pivotal role in maintaining peace and order, also combating invaders during the Japanese Occupation from 1941 to 1945.
To allow these policemen to fulfill their religious obligations, the British allocated a piece of land beside the Ipoh District Police Headquarters, where they established their local mosque in 1930. It also became their primary gathering point during their days of rest. Today, Masjid Pakistan, as it is known, continues to be utilized by all Pakistani Punjabi Muslim communities and their families for their religious activities.
