This iconic landmark of the Indian Muslim Mosque is located just next to St. Michaelʼs Institution along Jalan S.P. Seenivasagam. It was built in 1908 by a wealthy Tamil Muslim named Shaik Adam.
Shaik Adam was one of the many Tamil Indians who came to Ipoh at the end of the 19th Century to work in the then immensely profitable tin mining industry. The mosque was built specifically for Tamil people who belonged to the Hanafi Sect of the Indian Muslim community at a time when the only mosques available where under the Safie Sect of the Islamic religion.
This unique square-shaped Indian Muslim mosque features Moghul-style architecture. It is known locally as the “Ipoh Padang Mosque” simply because the Ipoh padang (field) is just opposite.
