Geopark Lembah Kinta is a big project of the Perak State Government which is managed by the Department of Minerals and Geosciences Malaysia , Perak along with government agencies, statutory bodies and institutions of higher learning.

The Lembah Kinta (Kinta Valley) in the state of Perak is rich in unique kars hills that have a variety of heritage of mining history, geological history and natural landscape diversity. Most of these kars hills are located in Ipoh and it is a package to make the city of Ipoh as a geotourism route that can make it famous among local and international tourists.

The Lembah Kinta also has so many resources of geological and cultural heritage that meet most of the requirements to be crowned as a national geopark. The Lembah Kinta is famous as a tin mining heritage site and has a unique natural landscape diversity as well as high geological and scientific historical value.

The Lembah Kinta area is a lowland formed by limestone and a small portion of shale rock. Nearly 80 percent of the Lembah Kinta area is based on a layer of limestone with some appearing on the surface forming an upright wall or mountain known as karst topography. The Lembah Kinta is also flanked by 2 granite rock ranges, namely the Kledang Range on the west and the Titiwangsa Range on the east.
